Karen Slovak is a visual artist, CA credentialed art teacher, and yoga instructor. She has a BFA in Painting from SUNY Purchase and studied studio/ graphic arts at SVA in NYC. Karen trained in textile design at The California School of Professional Fabric Design, and her love of surface pattern influences her paintings. Her designs have been commercially printed on home textile products and she exhibits her work annually at Bay Area Open Studios. Karen has been a street painting artist at the annual North Beach Festival; crewed as a museum preparator; and volunteered as a hospital art therapist. Her paintings reflect impressions from a life lived in NYC and San Francisco Bay Area, with iconic city imagery, nature’s patterns, and expressive figures. She paints enchanted scenes that evoke a sense of interconnection and home.
